Notes: The large, black fruits are suitable for fresh use or freezing. An
older, late-season variety that remains popular in the western United
States. Not generally recommended for eastern North America. Pollin-
ate with 'Hardy Giant'.
Lapins
Climate Zones: Zones 5-8
Notes: The fruits are large and mahogany red. A newer variety from
British Columbia that is becoming popular in the northwestern United
States from Montana to Oregon and Washington. Also recommended
for Indiana, Virginia, and British Columbia. Not the best fresh-market
cherry for the eastern United States due to soft fruit and rain cracking.
Self-fruitful and reported to be an excellent pollinizer.
Napoleon (Royal Ann)
Climate Zones: Zones 6-8
Notes: The small, yellow, red-blushed fruits have soft, light-colored
flesh. Excellent for canning. Widely planted and recommended from
Virginia to California and from New Mexico to Oregon. Susceptible to
rain cracking. Not recommended by Pennsylvania fruit specialists. Do
not use to pollinate 'Bing', 'Lambert', or 'Emperor Francis'.
