Notes: The medium-sized fruits are sweet and tender enough to eat
fresh or can be cooked. This variety originated in central Asia and is
among the most cold-hardy quinces available in North America. Repor-
ted to be self-fertile.
Orange
Climate Zones: Zones 5-8
Notes: The large bright yellow fruits have orange-yellow flesh. Suit-
able for cooking. Ripens late to very late. Adaptable to a wide range of
growing regions. Reported to be self-fertile.
Pineapple
Climate Zones: Zones 5-8
Notes: The large fruits have tart, pineapple-flavored flesh suitable for
cooking. This low- to medium-chilling variety (300 hours) is surpris-
ingly cold-hardy. Produces heavy crops. Reported to be self-fertile.
Smyrna
Climate Zones: Zones 5-9
Notes: The large, yellow fruits are mild-flavored and suitable for cook-
ing. An old, Turkish variety that is widely recommended. Reported to be
self-fertile.
