Codling moth tends to be severe on Asian pears. Under some conditions,
plant bugs, stinkbugs, two-spotted mites, and European red mites can create
problems. All of these pests can be managed effectively using organic prac-
tices, as we discuss in chapter 11 .
Pears are easier to grow under arid and semiarid conditions in western
regions. In more humid locations, you will need to be especially vigilant in
managing tree vigor, pests, and diseases.
