Choosing orchard crops and varieties is one of the most enjoyable aspects
of planning or expanding an orchard. Unfortunately, many people start with
this step without considering all of the factors we have dealt with so far.
By this time, you should have chosen a great orchard site or thoroughly
evaluated the site that you have. You have designed your new orchard or
planned upgrades for an established orchard. Problems with soil drainage,
pH, and nutrient concentrations have been identified and you know how to
correct them. You have designed a soil-building program or your plans are
already underway. With the groundwork behind you, it is time to start filling
the orchard with trees.
