In-Depth Information
Catarman and around
There are some quiet stretches of sandy beach near the ramshackle little town of
CATARMAN , 24km south of Mambajao, plus springs and falls, but there's no
accommodation in the area. On the southern coast near Guinsiliban Elementary
School, fifteen minutes east by jeepney from Catarman, is a three-hundred-year-old
Moro Watchtower ; climb to the top for panoramic views across to mainland
Mindanao.
Santo Niño Cold Springs and Tuasan Falls
Santo Niño Cold Springs P20; day-use huts at both sites P100 • It's a 30min walk (2.5km) along the dirt track from the main road to the
springs, and then another 30min (2km) to the falls , or you can take a habal-habal
Some 6km north of Catarman, Santo Niño Cold Springs can be reached either on foot
or by motorbike from the coastal road. Continuing 2km further up the track will
bring you to Tuasan Falls . Both have deep pools that are good for swimming and the
surroundings are pleasant, with rich vegetation and a few simple huts where you can
change and take a nap.

ACCOMMODATION AND EATING
Most of the seaside accommodation in Camiguin is west of Mambajao on the beaches between the small towns of
Bug-ong and Naasag . The resorts in this area have lots of information about diving and trekking; resorts near the town
of Agoho, a little west of Bug-ong, are popular because of their good access to White Island. East of Mambajao around the
village of Balgabon you'll find more resorts, although the beach here isn't as good as at Agoho, Yumbing or Naasag.
Eating on Camiguin is mostly limited to the resorts or the few nipa-style restaurants dotting the beaches. In Mambajao
there are some local restaurants clustered around the Capitol Compound.

to Mambajao, Jasmine is excellent value, with spacious fan
cottages on the shore and a restaurant t hat se rves some
organic dishes. Motorbike rental P300/day. P800
Paras Beach Resort 4km beyond Bug-ong in Yumbing
T 088 387 9008, W parasbeachresort.com. In a specta-
cular position on the shore, this was a private beach house
belonging to the Paras family until they decided to add
compact a/c rooms (with hot showers and cable TV) and
open it to the public. It's a good place to organize tours.
