In-Depth Information
There's another park, a narrow strip of open space called Plaza Divisoria , running
east-west between T. Neri Street and Abejuela Street, a good area for convenience
stores and fast food. The park ends at Corrales Avenue and Xavier University . A couple
of kilometres northeast of the university, the hip, modern heart of the city revolves
around the Limketkai Center , an upscale mall, and the adjacent Rosario Strip , which
was the site of the bombing in 2013 (see box, p.403).

the Butuan boats (see p.415). The most interesting section is dedicated to the M'ranao
of Marawi, an area at the heart of the Moro dispute. Exhibits cover Islamic brass work,

Camp Philips
40km southeast on the highway to Davao • Minivans to Camp Philips from Cagayan de Oro's eastbound bus terminal (see p.406) P50
The small settlement of Camp Philips makes for an intriguing day-trip. The former US
base is now at the centre of the massive Del Monte Philippines pineapple plantation ,
the largest in Southeast Asia, and stumpy, prickly pineapple plants smother the
landscape in every direction. Today the camp houses Del Monte staff in pretty
wooden houses that blend US and Filipino styles, but there's not much to do other
than admire the fruit.

minibus from Coffeeworks, a café on Corrales St near Plaza Divisoria
Accessed by a dirt road from Camp Philips, the Dahilayan Adventure Park makes for
another entertaining day out, primarily for its 840m zipline and refreshingly cool
alpine location - the park nestles in the hills some 1370m above sea level. The main
attraction, the Dahilayan Zip Zone , comprises three ziplines: an exhilarating 320m
section and a tamer 150m segment; and the 840m finale, where you are chained
into a full body harness before hurtling down the mountain at 90km per hour.
ULTRALIGHT FLIGHTS
Just outside Camp Philips, thrilling ultralight flights operated by Carlito Freias ( T 0916 593
7034) allow you to soar high above the surrounding pineapple plantations, crisscross a
couple of lush canyons and see a magnificent waterfall, with hazy mountains in the
distance. Rides are P1500 per fifteen minutes, and he's prepared to fly any day, but you
must book in advance.
