Ormoc and around
The small and relatively neat town of ORMOC , on Leyte's west coast, faces Ormoc Bay
at the mouth of the Isla Verde River. Ormoc was largely rebuilt after floods in 1992
caused untold damage and resulted in the loss of eight thousand lives. In 2013 Ormoc
once again felt the full force of nature when Yolanda tore through the city, destroying
countless homes and damaging almost every roof. The city seems to be recovering well
though, and its bayside park is still a great place to watch the sunset.
Lake Danao
The lake can be reached from Ormoc by jeepney (P50) or you can hire a van for the day (P3000)
Lake Danao , 19km away from Ormoc, had many of its facilities wiped out by Typhoon
Yolanda, but still makes for a pleasant half-day out. Once there you can hike to a
number of different waterfalls including Inawasan Falls (30min), Tigbawan Falls (2hr)
and Maga-aso Falls (3-4hr).
