The east coast
Panay's east coast - from Iloilo City north to Estancia - is an undeveloped area of
wilderness and sun-drenched barangays rarely seen by tourists. There are some
wonderfully pristine islands off the coast, many of them unfamiliar even to locals, but
to explore them you'll need time on your hands, patience and a willingness to spend
nights camped on beaches. This region was badly hit by Typhoon Yolanda with heavy
loss of life. In time tourism can have its role here, but for now the region is best left to
get back on its feet.

Roxas
ROXAS , the capital of Capiz province, is renowned for its seafood, and also has a
reputation among Filipinos as being a hotbed of witches and shamans. The city is
connected by air, ferry and land, but aside from taking a trip out to the pleasant if
unremarkable stretch of golden sand at Baybay Beach , 4km north of town, and trying
the seafood, there is little to keep visitors in Roxas for long.
In late 2013 Roxas became the headquarters for the Yolanda relief operation in
devastated northern Panay. While Roxas proper escaped without too much serious
damage, many of the famous seafood shacks (and resorts) at Baybay were damaged or
destroyed, but were already being rebuilt at the time of writing.

tricycle (P15) in Arnaldo Blvd, is served daily from Manila by
PAL and Cebu Pacific flights, both of which have of ces there.

Beach. Tricycles run out to the pier for P20. Providing the

Sibuyan Island in the Romblon group (4-5hr).
