Jordan and San Miguel
Tourists only visit JORDAN , in the north
of the island, because most bangkas
from Iloilo arrive at Hoskyn port 2km
to the west. Nearby SAN MIGUEL , the
capital, is rarely visited at all but is the
handiest place hereabouts if you need
cash or to make a phone call. There's no
accommodation in either town and not
much in the way of food - numerous
no-nonsense carinderias offer little more
than adobo and rice.

Macopo Falls
P5 • A tricycle will take 15min from Jordan and 10min from San

Guimaras has some pretty waterfalls in
its hinterland, the best of which is Macopo Falls , between Jordan and San Miguel. Steps
lead to a steep and sometimes slippery track through the undergrowth down to the
falls, where you can swim in a beautifully chilly mountain pool formed by water
gushing through a rocky gorge from high above.

Our Lady of the Philippines Trappist Monastery
2km south of San Miguel
Founded in 1972 by Americans, Our Lady of the Philippines Trappist Monastery lies on
the main road southwest from San Miguel. The monks seem to do very nicely, with
orchards that grow assorted tropical fruit and an interesting souvenir shop where
banana fries, cashews, guava jelly, mango jam and even holy water are sold under the
Trappist Monastic Products brand name.
Navalas and the north
The barangay of NAVALAS on the island's northern coast has two interesting sights, one
religious, the other an imperious temple to Mammon. The seventeenth-century
Navalas Church , an atmospherically decrepit relic of the Spanish regime, is a good
starting point for exploring this coast. A short walk away on a promontory overlooking
Iloilo Strait stands a villa known as Roca Encantada (Enchanted Rock) or, more
sneeringly, Lopezville, vacation house of the wealthy Lopez clan who hail from Iloilo.
Siete Pecados
30min by bangka from Navalas • Small boats (fitting 4-6 people) charge P400 for the first hour, then P150 for succeeding hours;
alternatively you can arrange to visit as part of an island day-trip through your resort
Opposite the Roca Encantada's promontory is a picturesque group of coral islets called
Siete Pecados (Isles of the Seven Sins). The largest of the islets has an impressive house
perched on top, but the others are bare. There are no beaches but it's worth the trip for
the snorkelling.
