option near the old town centre with clean and comfortable

new hotel with friendly staff and attractive, modern rooms
styled in muted tones. Mod co ns include low lighting,

small fan or a/c (P550) rooms with no views, but they're
among the cheapest in Bacolod and you're right in the
middle of the action, opposite City Plaza an d the c athedral,

this glass-fronted estalishment has a great location amid
the dining options on Lacson St. Deluxe rooms are comfort-
able and well maintained, but the newly renovated super-
deluxe rooms (P4400), tastefully decorated in understated
style, are worth the extra. All rooms are a/c and have cable
TV, fridge, safe and free wi-fi. There's also a 24hr poolside
café that offers buffet lunches and dinners. P3500

Palmas del Mar Resort J.R. Torres Ave, 2km southwest

.net. Family resort in a residential area close to the sea, with a
good range of accommodation, including regular a/c rooms,
family rooms and cottages. There's a decent-sized pool and
the restaurant serves local specialities and European dishes.
Pleasantly quiet during the week, when yo u might have the

Bacolod's dining scene has moved uptown and upscale of late, and there's a cosmopolitan range of trendy cafés and
restaurants along northern Lacson St , while time-tested favourites still hold their own in the old city . As well as the
listings below it's worth checking out the row of identikit chicken restaurants at Manokan Country .
seafood from blue marlin with herb butter (P285) to good
old-fashioned fish and chips (P265). White tablecloths and

Balboa 13th St at Lacson St T 034 435 8642 . A welcome
addition to Bacolod's restaurant scene, Balboa is a clean,
bright diner with a Negrense twist. Along with diner
staples including pizza (P219-289) and spareribs (P139),
local offerings include kare kare (P199) and lechon kawali
(P149). Daily 11am-10pm.

popular diner which e ciently turns out coffees (P55-

SNACKS
Bongbong's Araneta St T 034 704 2530, W bongbongs
piaya.com. For a real taste of Sugarlandia, Bongbong's sells
everything from banana-honey chips to piyaya (a hardened
pancake with sugar melted inside) and delicious bay ibayi
(sugar and coconut bar). They also have an outlet at the
ferry terminal. Daily 9am-7pm.
