In-Depth Information
Previously most visitors headed for the Chocolate Hills Complex , but this was badly
damaged by the October 2013 quake and remained closed at the time of writing. In
the meanwhile the Chocolate Hills Adventure Park offers vistas, plus a host of attractions
and activities, including a canopy walkway, a high-rope challenge course and even a
bike zip-line.
For a different view of the Chocolate Hills, exploring the backroads by motorbike,
bike or on foot is definitely worthwhile; contact Barkada Tours (see p.293) for hiking
or biking trips. Alternatively you could head to Sagbayan Peak , northwest of Carmen,
where there's another tourist complex which offers closer-up, quieter views.

A few kilometres from the small town of Danao, north of the Chocolate Hills, Danao
Adventure Park occupies an area of rugged jungle-covered massif cut by deep valleys.
Established in 2006, the park has become the centre for outdoors pursuits in Bohol,
offering everything from river tubing to the white-knuckle inducing “plunge”, which
involves being lowered down a cliff on a rope and pendulum swung across the canyon.
You can also try climbing, caving, kayaking and quad biking.

The west and north coasts
Bohol's pretty northwest coast is lined with mangroves and dotted with Spanish-era ruins,
and is also the access point for the dive sites of Cabilao Island . Further north, Tubigon has
fast craft to Cebu (see p.292), while on the opposite side of Bohol to Tagbilaran, the dull
agricultural town of Ubay has transport connections to Leyte (see p.292).
Maribojoc
Take a bus or jeepney from Tagbilaran
The pretty coastal town of MARIBOJOC lies just 14km from Tagbilaran. The town is the
site of the old Spanish Punta Cruz watchtower , one of a number of old watchtowers of
note on Bohol. Once a lookout for marauding pirates, Punta Cruz is now a viewing
deck from where you can gaze across to Cebu and Siquijor. The town's Santa Cruz
church was completely destroyed by the 2013 quake.
Cabilao Island
Bus to Loon and then change to a jeepney (P10) for Mocpoc pier on Sandingan Island; bangkas from Mocpoc to Cabilao cost P20 (20min)
The pretty little island of Cabilao has a handful of modest but very comfortable resorts
aimed largely at divers. These resorts can arrange trips to local dive sites such as the
Wall at Cambaquiz , where there are turtles and baby sharks, and Shark View Point ,
where one of the attractions - apart from sharks - is pygmy sea horses.
