Panglao Island
Across the bridge from Tagbilaran, PANGLAO boasts beautiful beaches, first-rate diving
and historic Spanish churches. The whole island is enjoying increasing popularity,
nowhere more so than Alona Beach , and while there is now a great choice of hotels and
restaurants, this also means higher room and food prices. The best quieter stretches of
white sand are Bolod Beach , San Isidro Beach , Bikini Beach , all on the south coast, and
Doljo Beach , near the westernmost tip of the island.
Given the dive boats filling the coast along Alona, the best sea swimming on the island is
to be found at the exclusive resorts along the south coast, such as Bohol Beach Club (see
p.296). Alternatively you could head to one of the quieter north coast beaches at Doljo or
Momo , both of which have good swimming at certain times of year.
Away from the reefs and beaches, Panglao has two main towns, Dauis and Panglao ,
on the east and west sides of the island respectively, both of which hold pretty Spanish
churches. The rest of the interior presents a verdant rural pastiche of nipa huts and
towering palms, perfect for short walks, cycle rides or touring by motorbike.
