Museum and Heritage Center
Capitol Compound • Tues-Sat 8am-5pm • Free
The small Museum and Heritage Center displays a number of ancient artefacts,
including burial jar covers dating back as far as 1000 BC that were found in caves in
Bacon. Among the other exhibits are beautiful Chinese porcelain bowls from the Ming
dynasty, chairs with Chinese inspired designs and anchors believed to have been used
during the Spanish colonial era. Highlights include the skull of a sperm whale, the
skeletal system of a dolphin and a 10m long vertebra of a whale shark that was washed
ashore in nearby Donsol in 2010.

SORSOGON CITY
By bus Buses use the Grand Terminal 2km south of the city
centre, a P40 tricycle ride away. Local buses make the trip
to Legazpi (every 15min; 1hr 30min). Philtranco runs a
daily service to and from Manila (10-12hr), as do a number
of local companies (13 daily).
By jeepney Jeepneys travel to Gubat (every 10min;
30min; P25), Bacon (every 10min; 30min; P17) and Bulan
(every 30min; 2hr; P75).
By van Regular vans connect the city to Legazpi (every
15min; 1hr; 15min; P85).

ACCOMMODATION AND EATING
Fernando's Hotel N. Pareja St T 056 211 1357,
W fernandoshotel.com. This cosy two-storey building
offers nicely presented deluxe rooms (P2000) that open
up onto a balcony overlooking a leafy breakfast area;
they're worth a look for their creative use of natural
materials such as coconut and bamboo. The standard
rooms on the ground floor are not as ins piring, but they are

Fritz Homestay Block 21, Executive Village, Tugos

nearly twenty rooms, this welcoming homestay 1km
north of town is more of a hotel - the rooms are nicely
decorated with wrought-iron bed frames, wooden
wardrobes and lampshades made with shells. The most
expensive rooms are particularly spacious, with knick-
knacks dotted about. There are also two little swimming
pools in the backyard, and a restaurant (with wi-fi)

offers stylish rooms with creative furniture including
oversized armchairs and beanbags. The welcoming
rooms with four-poster bamboo beds are set around
an inviting 25m pool with deckchairs - a pleasant spot

Una Pizzeria 3257 Pareja St T 056 211 3945.
Probably the best restaurant in town, this welcoming
pizzeria offers pizzas (P117) and pasta dishes (P122) in
a couple of airy rooms with scattered wooden tables,
and a few paintings that add colour to the walls; the
mellow background music and the two retro sofas add
to the inviting atmosphere. Sun-Fri 9am-9pm, Sat
10am-9pm.

Banks There are a number of banks (including BPI, PNB
and Allied Bank) on Rizal St and Magsaysay St.
Internet access King Evanz Internet on Burgos St (daily

Shopping Kasanggayahan Village at the Capital Compound
(daily 8am-9pm) has a dozen or so shops selling souvenirs
and local products including pili nuts.
Rizal Beach
A short tricycle ride beyond the barangay of Gubat , which lies about 12km east of
Sorsogon City on the eastern tip of the province, Rizal Beach stretches for 2km in a
perfect crescent. It's a pleasant spot that can be suitable for surfing between October
and January; for further information contact Gubat Inc ( T 0905 242 1693) who rent
boards (P150/hr) and organize lessons (P150/hr).
