in a jar, a batirol , with a wooden stick before being served
with a little fanfare. It's best enjoyed with sticky rice

9722. The exquisite carrot cake (P68) at this little café was
originally baked for the wife of former President Ramos;
it's a great little spot to refuel with a slice of cake or a
substantial main course of indigenous cuisine (P108).

W hillstationbaguio.com. Within the Casa Vallejo hotel,
with a smart but unpretentious dining room and waiting
staff in military-style uniforms to reflect Baguio's history as
a US hill station. The international menu exclusively features
home-made dishes and includes stews from other famous
hill stations in countries such as India. There is also a
pleasant café/bar with delectable cakes. Daily 7am-11pm.
Oh My Gulay La Azotea Building, Session Rd T 074 446
0108. Hidden upstairs in a shopping mall, this quirky
veggie restaurant and art space was designed by renowned
Baguio artist Kidlat Tahimik; it's worth coming just to
take a peek at the decor - the leafy interior features stone
walkways, mismatched furniture, a mock wooden boat
and a little pond. Mains P110. Tues-Thurs 11am-8pm,
Fri & Sat 11am-9pm, Sun 11am-7pm.
Rose Bowl 88 Upper General Luna Rd T 074 442 4213.
This award-winning Cantonese restaurant follows family
recipes brought over from China at the beginning of the
twentieth century. Dishes are prepared mainly using local
products and the fresh fish is transported daily from the
beach at San Juan. Dishes serve three to four - try the
crispy pata (deep fried pork leg; P550). Daily 10am-10pm.
Wood Nymph 36 Military Cut-off Rd T 074 446 0272.
One of Baguio's many Korean restaurants, this airy place
has been serving the city's Korean community for nearly
two decades. The speciality here is seafood - try the
seafood soup (P650 for three people). The pork ribs (P250)
are great too. Daily 10am-10pm.

DRINKING AND NIGHTLIFE
108 Session Road Café 108 Session Rd. Packed at
weekends, this place is a good spot to enjoy a few beers
(P60) and live music (daily 5pm-midnight) - anything
from country to classical. The American menu features
burgers (P55) and buffalo wings (P140). Happy hour
5-7pm. Daily 5pm-1am.
18 BC 16 Legarda Rd. Popular among local and Korean
students who flock here at the weekend to socialize
en masse. Walls are decorated with wagon wheels and
deer-head trophies, but the music is more likely to be
acoustic rock than country. Daily 7pm-2am.
Ayuyang Under Baden Powell Inn, 26 Governor Pack
Rd. Popular with students and artists, this friendly bar
often has live acoustic and reggae music in the evenings,
with local bands on Fri nights. Fri 6pm-2am, Sat-Thurs
7pm-midnight.
Nevada Square 2 Loakan Rd. This little square, with a
collection of bars and clubs, attracts a student crowd at
the weekend, belting out their favourite karaoke and
enjoying live bands and DJs. Cover charge P50-100. Daily
7.30pm-3am.
Padi's Point North Rd, Rizal Park T 074 304 5105,
W padispoint.com. Part of a chain with branches across
Luzon, this bar has live and loud music until 4am on
weekdays and 5am at the weekend. The menu includes a
range of local dishes. Happy hour 5-9pm. Daily 5pm-5am.
Rumours 55 Session Rd T 074 619 0152. A straight-
forward place to enjoy a drink, without intrusive music or
other distractions. There's a better than usual choice of
beers (P50) and snacks to enjoy with them. The signature
secret-recipe cocktail “Power of Rumours” mixes eight
varieties of spirits. Daily 11am-3am.

Easter Weaving Room 2 Easter Rd, Guisad T 074

such as rugs, tablemats, wall hangings, textiles, cushion
covers and bed linen. You can watch the weavers at work
on old hand looms and, if you've got a few weeks to
wait, place a personal order. It's on the northwestern
outskirts of the city; take a jeepney heading in the
direction of Guisad from Kayang St, at the northern end
of Burnham Park, or a taxi for around P60. Mon-Sat
8am-5pm.

of handicrafts, including beautiful wooden artefacts, as
