In-Depth Information
Hotel Lana'i
At the time of publication, a third resort was under construction on the east-facing Ka-
halepalaoa shoreline, with the vision being of private beach bungalows at the site of the
abandoned Club Lana'i. The status of the resort remains to be seen, although it could po-
tentially provide a luxurious accommodation option for the island's eastern shoreline.
BED-AND-BREAKFASTS
The Dreams Come True (808/565-6961 www.dreamscometruelanai.com , $129) guest-
house has four rooms available for rent. While the house itself dates to 1925, it was largely
renovated in 2000, with hardwood floors and Italian marble in the bathrooms. The local
owners are a wealth of knowledge on all sort of island information. Breakfast is included,
as is free Internet.
Hale Moe (502 Akolu St., 808/565-9520, $85-95) is a modern, clean, and comfy island
house on the south side of town that rents three rooms, each with a bathroom, or the entire
house. Food for breakfast is available each morning, and guests can use the kitchen for
other meals. Two rooms go for $85 and the third is $95; the whole house can be rented for
$300.
VACATION RENTALS
To experience Lana'i from a more local perspective (i.e., not be spritzed by Evian bottles),
consider one of the smaller, more affordable rental options scattered throughout Lana'i
City.
Located in town is Apo's House ( www.lanaicityrental.com , $195), a three-bedroom,
two-bath house. The house is fully furnished, and there is a full kitchen. While it might be
set in an older plantation home, you have the convenience of walking into Lana'i City and
the feeling that you're part of the local community.
For those traveling in larger groups, the Lana'i City Vacation Rental
( www.lanaiforvacation.com , $250), a three-bedroom house in the center of Lana'i City,
rents for $250 per night with a three-night minimum. The plantation home is set in a trop-
ical, relaxing surrounding, can accommodate groups of 9-11 people, and can arrange any
holistic retreat options you're hoping to find on the island.
