a two-night minimum, and breakfast is provided on the first day. A tunnel through the trees
leads you to the house, and walkways run throughout the property, one to a small stupa

rented by the week for $500. Breezy and light, it has a full kitchen and a bathroom and

In the community of Huelo you'll find the M Huelo Point Lookout (808/573-0914,
www.mauivacationcottages.com , $215-405), a collection of five vacation rentals in a lush
and heavenly section of the island not for the resort-loving crowd. These five separate va-
cation rentals provide sweeping views of the Huelo coastline and are truly a place to escape

of stars every night, and outdoor hot tubs from which to enjoy them. Discounts are given
for weekly stays.
HANA
There are two completely different ways of experiencing Hana: trying to see it all in one
day or making the smart move to spend a night and enjoy the beauty at a relaxed pace. For
those who want to really relax, two or three nights in Hana are best. For those who want to
experience the Road to Hana without the rush and the stress, choosing to spend a night in
Hana—even if it means paying for two hotels in one night by not checking out of the other
one—is the best $200 you'll spend on vacation.

and rates are $50 for a shared bathroom or $60 for a room with a private bath. You'll find
kitchen access, a communal TV room, and daily towel change, but if a little dirt and the
occasional bug bother you, then you might want to look somewhere else. Cash or travelers
checks only, and if no one is in the office, just ring for assistance.
Over $150
There are places to stay during your time in Hana, and then there is the M Travaasa Hana

center of town was the island's first resort hotel when it opened in 1946, and since that
