In-Depth Information
Directly in front of Wailea Beach are two of Wailea's largest resorts, the sprawling, pink
Grand Wailea (3850 Wailea Alanui Dr., 808/875-1234, www.grandwailea.com , $565)
and the ultra-luxurious Four Seasons Resort (3900 Wailea Alanui Dr., 808/874-8000,
www.fourseasons.com , $600). While both resorts offer the highest quality, the Grand
Wailea is famous for its pool system. Families will enjoy navigating the waterslides, rope
swings, and the water elevator. Next door, at the Four Seasons, the pool scene is much
more reserved, but the cream villas looking out over the water redefine island luxury.
Rooms are expensive and amenities lavish.
Around the southern end of Wailea Point are the twirling white spires of the M Fair-
mont Kea Lani (4100 Wailea Alanui, 808/875-4100, www.fairmont.com , $550). Located
on the sands of Polo Beach, the property has undergone extensive renovations and appears
nicer now than ever before. Each room is arranged like a one-bedroom suite, and the resort
is involved in a number of ecoconscious initiatives to help protect the island environment.
The resort has more of an exclusive feel since it's set off on its own.
If you'd rather have a boutique hotel experience instead of an oceanfront mega-resort,
the Hotel Wailea (555 Kaukahi St., 808/874-0500, www.hotelwailea.com , $359) is tucked
away up on a hill with views looking over the coastline. There is a spa, swimming pool,
and fine dining on property. This is Wailea's most intimate option for luxury boutique ho-
tels.
Condominiums
Those who want to be walking distance from the beaches of Wailea without the hefty price
tag can look into some of the affordably priced condos on the northern edge of the resort.
The M Wailea Ekolu Village (808/891-6200, www.drhmaui.com ) offers one- and two-
bedroom condos with free parking, free Internet, kitchens, and rates that start around $260.
MAKENA
Over $150
A gleaming, wing-shaped building where every room has at least a partial ocean view,
the M Makena Beach and Golf Resort (5400 Makena Alanui, 808/874-1111
www.makenaresortmaui.com , $210-275) offers South Maui's best resort value. Recent
renovations have spruced up everything from the rooms to the exterior, and activities to
dining. The resort offers free bicycles and a shuttle to Wailea. Parking is free, Internet is
free, there is no resort fee, and all of the activities of Maluaka Beach are right out the
front door. There are six tennis courts, a relaxing swimming pool, and the golf course
