The Maui Lu is not designed as an ordinary hotel—it looks more like condo units—but
none of the rooms has a kitchen. All include TV, air-conditioning, refrigerator, and daily
maid service, while other amenities include an activities desk, tennis courts, a Maui-shaped
swimming pool, two small beaches, and free Wi-Fi in the lobby. Room prices vary accord-
ing to season. Special rates as low as $99 are sometimes available, and you can find dis-
counts for longer stays.
The most affordable hotel option in South Kihei is the Days Inn (2980 S. Kihei Rd.,
808/879-7744, www.daysinn.com , $83-200), which sits on the north end of Keawakapu
Beach. Rooms are small, there is air-conditioning and a small refrigerator, and while it
might be basic, it's tough to argue with the price, considering the location. There is free
Wi-Fi, free parking, and outdoor grills. As expected, oceanfront suites can stretch upward
to $250.
Over $150
On the northern edge of South Kihei is the M Maui Coast Hotel (2259 S. Kihei Rd., 808/
874-6284, www.mauicoasthotel.com , $169), a 265-room high-rise hotel a three-minute
walk from the beach. You'll find tennis courts, a fitness room, and a swimming pool.
Rooms have free Wi-Fi and air-conditioning. There is free parking, as well as a free resort
shuttle for transport around the South Kihei and Wailea area. Rates begin at around $169,
although there are frequently a number of specials including AAA discounts and weekly
rates. There is also a $17.50 resort fee.
Condominiums
One of the several condos at the far north end of Kihei is Sugar Beach Resort (145 N.

vidually owned units as well as a swimming pool, spa, and sundries shop. Rates often vary
depending upon the rental agency and time of year.
Across from the south end of Mai Poina 'Oe Ia'u Beach Park is the Maui Sunseeker
(551 S. Kihei Rd., 808/879-1261, www.mauisunseeker.com , $120-190) resort, a gay-
friendly, adult-only property featuring 16 rooms in a small and quiet setting. A sundeck
with a hot tub is on the roof, there are kitchenettes in the rooms, and laundry facilities are
available on-site.
Menehune Shores (760 S. Kihei Rd., 808/879-3428,
www.menehunereservations.com , $200-310) is a huge, family-oriented, and moderately
priced high-rise condo on the beach overlooking an ancient fishpond. All units have an
