West Maui
KAPALUA, NAPILI, AND HONOKOWAI
Over $150
The largest, most well-known resort on the northwestern side of the island is the lavish
Ritz-Carlton Kapalua (1 Ritz-Carlton Dr., 808/669-6200 www.ritzcarlton.com , $400), an
exquisitely manicured luxury resort set back from D.T. Fleming Beach. The resort offers
what you've come to expect of a Ritz-Carlton, and there are also a number of cultural and
environmental programs such as the acclaimed Ambassadors of the Environment. While it
can often be windy and wet here, many of the showers pass quickly, although it is still wet-
ter than downtown Lahaina. Rates begin around $400 and work their way up from there.
Condominiums

Resort (5900 Lower Honoapi'ilani Rd., 808/669-6271, www.napilikai.com , $270-500) is
a West Side classic that offers individually owned condos in a family-friendly resort set-
ting. Since the rooms are pricey, this is a great option for families whose goal is to largely
stay in one place and do little more than play on the beach. The resort is steps from Napili
Bay, there is a miniature putting course, multiple swimming pools, and weekly mai tai
parties. The Sea House restaurant has one of the best breakfasts and happy hours on the is-
land. Many of the units have been recently renovated and are the nicest they've ever been.
If the price of the Napili Kai is too steep, yet you still want to be on Napili Bay, the
Napili Village (5425 Lower Honoapi'ilani, 808/669-6228, www.napilivillage.com , $149)
offers condos within walking distance that are the best value in Napili. Rates can be as low
as $99/night during slower seasons of the year (but are regularly $149), and these studios
and one-bedroom apartments include air-conditioning, maid service, and full kitchens for
those who want to cook their own meals. The rooms aren't as luxurious as some of the
