GAS
Pa'ia
There are three gas stations within walking distance of each other in Pa'ia; be sure you
have close to a full tank if you're going to be taking the long, winding journey out to Hana.
None of the stations offer a public restroom (the closest ones are at Pa'ia Bay).
Ha'iku
Tucked away on a back road that visitors only end up on if they're lost, the only gas station
in Ha'iku can be found at Hanzawa's (1833 Kaupakalua Rd., 808/298-0407, 6am-8pm
Mon.-Sat., 7am-7pm Sun.) store about halfway between Hana Highway and the town of
Makawao.
Hana
In all of Hana there is only one gas station: the Chevron (808/270-5299, 7am-8:30pm
Mon.-Sat., 7am-6pm Sun.) on the highway next to the horse stables. It has a few auto sup-
plies, snacks, and a telephone, although for a public restroom you're better off going down
to the Hana ball field. Gas in Hana is expensive, roughly $0.50 per gallon higher than the
already high prices elsewhere on the island. Fill up before leaving town because the nearest
gas station west is in Pa'ia; going south around the bottom, the closest is in Keokea in Up-
country, and it isn't open in the evening hours.
POST OFFICE
Pa'ia
If you want to mail home that new Technicolor outfit you picked up in town, the U.S.
Post Office (120 Baldwin Ave., 808/579-8866, 8:30am-11am, noon-4:30pm Mon.-Fri.,
10:30am-12:30pm Sat.) is modern, convenient, and the only option in town.
Hana
The Hana post office (808/248-8258, 11am-4pm weekdays) is a tiny station across from
the Hana Ranch Restaurant, and there is a community bulletin board is posted outside.
