town ( This is it?! ). They settle for moderately overpriced hot dogs and plate lunches at this
oceanfront takeout window. The plates themselves are fine and you can't beat the bay view
setting.
American
A longtime staple of the town's restaurant scene, the Hana Ranch Restaurant (5031 Hana
Hwy., 808/270-5280, 11am-8:30pm daily, $8-10) is located on the mountain side of the
road in the “center of town” (if the bank and post office are there, it's the center of town).
There are shoyu chicken plate lunches, fish and chicken sandwiches, and soothing bowls of
saimin noodles to calm your upset stomach. The takeout window is open from 11am-4pm;
the inside seating area stays open for dinner.
Hawaiian Regional
If you're craving is a proper meal in a resort setting, the M Ka'uiki (5031 Hana Hwy., 808/

lunch options of fish tacos, grilled vegetable pitas, and ahi nicoise salad provide a solid

taste buds. The entrée menu uses locally sourced ingredients. A full-service bar and wine
list add some libations to a romantic meal in paradise. Prices are higher than a food cart on
the road, but you're getting a relaxing respite in one of the nicest hotels in the state.
Fruit Stands
Only a few miles before the town of Hana, the legendary M Hana Farms Banana Bread
Stand (mile marker 31.2, 8am-7pm daily) features six different types of banana bread, as
well as a full range of fruits, coffee, sauces, and flavorings. There will be more fruit stands
as you wrap your way between Hana and Kipahulu, but none of them are like this. Do
yourself a favor and stop for a coffee, banana bread (get a loaf with chocolate chips), and
advice on your Hana adventure.
Farmers Market
One of the best Hana lunch options, and one of the few actually open on Sunday, is
Hana Fresh Market (4590 Hana Hwy., 10am-4pm Mon., 10am-2pm weekends, $8), in
the parking lot of the Hana Health Clinic between the town of Hana and the turnoff for
Wai'anapanapa. Not only do the proceeds support the Hana Health Clinic, but many of
