to do without a light. To reach the Waihou Springs trailhead, go to the only intersection
in Makawao and follow Olinda Road uphill for five miles before you see the pine-needle
parking lot on the right.
Waihou Springs Trail
With miles of open road and some of the best trails on Maui, Upcountry is the most popular
part of the island for both road bikers and mountain bikers. The air up here is nice and cool,
the views stretch all the way to the ocean below, and the traffic levels are lower than on
many of the island's other main roads. The only rental operator Upcountry is in downtown
