sports bar: one of the few places to catch international events such as soccer or rugby. The
ocean views, happy hour menu, Willie K dinner show, and Celtic Tigers bagpiping draw
people up the hill above the Fairmont Kea Lani. Fish-and-chips and shepherd's pie, bur-
gers, and sandwiches are all economical.
Hawaiian Regional
The Hawaiian regional restaurants in Wailea are utterly fantastic, romantic, and expensive.
Gannon's (100 Wailea Golf Club Dr., 808/875-8080, www.gannonsrestaurant.com ,
8:30am-9:30pm daily, $12-22 lunch $28-48 dinner) overlooks the Wailea Emerald golf
course, has a stunning panoramic ocean view, and offers contemporary entrées such as
miso-glazed Kona kampachi or Moroccan spiced lamb. Lunch and brunch options like the
oven-roasted turkey club or the Greek omelet are downright affordable.
At the Four Seasons, Duo (3900 Wailea Alanui, 808/874-8000, 6:30am-11am Mon.-
Sat., 6:30am-noon Sun., $30-50) ranks in the upper echelon of fine island cuisine. The din-
ner menu is dominated by steak and seafood options such as Brandt True filet mignon and
shiso panko-crusted ahi. For something light, try the lobster bisque. The breakfast buffet is
lauded as the best in Wailea.
At the Grand Wailea, Humuhumunukunukuapua'a (3850 Wailea Alaui Dr., 808/
875-1234, www.wailearesortdining.com , 5:30pm-9pm nightly, $30-49) is not only one of
the hardest restaurants to pronounce, it's also one of the most popular. Named after the
state fish, “Humu” sits in a thatched-roof Polynesian structure afloat on its own million-
gallon saltwater lagoon. Large plates include the famous Hawaiian spiny lobster as well as
hoisin and pear-braised short ribs.
Seafood
In the Fairmont Kea Lani, Nick's Fishmarket (4100 Wailea Alanui Dr., 808/879-7224,
www.nicksfishmarktmaui.com , 5:30pm-9:45pm daily, $30-50) focuses on the bounty of
the sea. Whitewashed walls and vine-covered trellises give the open-air restaurant a Medi-
