Shave Ice
Kihei is officially one of the hottest places on Maui, so forgive yourself for shave ice crav-
ings. The best option for the syrupy snack is M Local Boys Shave Ice (1941 S. Kihei Rd.,
808/344-9779, www.localboysshaveice.com , 10am-9pm daily) in the Kihei Kalama Vil-
lage. Mix up to three flavors onto your heaping mound of thinly shaved ice flakes and add
Roselani, Maui-made ice cream, Kauai cream, and azuki beans free of charge. Placing ice
cream at the bottom of the shave ice and covering it in Kauai cream is the only way to go.
After you try it, you'll understand.
Ululani's Shave Ice (61 S. Kihei Rd., www.ululanisshaveice.com , 11am-6pm daily) is
the staple at the northern end of town. Located by the ABC store just across from the Kihei
Canoe Club, it's the shave ice stand closest to Sugar Beach or the Ma'alaea area.
Food Cart
The most popular food truck in Kihei is the Kinaole Grill (77 Alanui Ke Ali'i Dr.,
11am-7:30pm daily, $12-14) which serves plates of garlic shrimp, coconut shrimp, and
chicken katsu on the road across from the north end of Kamaole I Beach. The plates are
the same price (if not more expensive) than a chicken katsu plate you could get at a nearby
restaurant such as Da Kitchen.
Jawz Fish Tacos (808/874-8226, 11am-4:30pm daily, $6-11) has a truck on the corner
of Keonekai and South Kihei Roads, across the street from Kamaole III Beach Park.
Choose from affordable burritos, nachos, quesadillas, and tacos, all on the better side of
average.
Farmers Market
In North Kihei, right across from Kenolio Park and the Kihei Canoe Club area, the farm-
ers market (61 South Kihei Rd., 8am-4pm Mon.-Thurs., 8am-5pm Fri.) is a great way to
support local island farmers. On weekends, there's another farmers market (95 E. Lipoa
Street, 8:30am-11am Sat.-Sun.) between South Kihei Road and the main highway.
WAILEA
Prices in Wailea are much higher than in other parts of the island. You're often paying for
master chefs, exceptional service, and unparalleled ambience in world-class resorts. Prices
for most meals in Wailea will be double what a similar meal might cost in Kihei. If you
