In-Depth Information
The chefs decided to open Maui Brick Oven (1215 S. Kihei Rd., 808/875-7896,
www.mauibrickoven.com , 4pm-9pm Mon.-Sat., $16-24) after they were diagnosed with
severe wheat allergies. The result is a pizza menu that manages to be 100 percent gluten-
free without sacrificing taste or selection. There are also appetizers such as shaved beef
carpaccio and a keiki menu as well.
Irish
Kihei is sunnier than Dublin, but when you order bangers and mash and a cold Guinness
at the dimly lit Dog and Duck Irish Pub (1913 S. Kihei Rd., 808/875-9669,
www.theworldfamousdogandduck.com , 10am-1am daily, $8-20), you feel like you're din-
ing at the famous Temple Bar. This lively pub is one of the few places you can catch that
international game Americans insist on calling soccer. Located at the back of the Kihei
Kalama Village, this is a great spot if you want some stick-to-your-ribs meat and potatoes
washed down with good conversation and a bit of the craic.
Mediterranean
Pita Paradise (1913 S. Kihei Rd., 808/875-7679, www.pitaparadisehawaii.com ,
11am-9:30pm daily, $9-17) serves surprisingly large gyros and falafel you might expect to
find in Mykonos, a welcome surprise in Kihei. While the lamb gyro is pricey, the Medi-
terranean chicken pita is affordable without sacrificing quality or taste. There are also
massive kabob plates. The outdoor garden patio is a peaceful place to enjoy a meal in oth-
erwise frenetic Kalama Village.
American
Tucked away in a peaceful garden setting, M 808 Bistro (2511 S. Kihei Rd., 808/
879-8008, www.808bistro.com , 7am-noon and 5pm-9pm daily, $7-15) offers some
serenity from the morning bustle of South Kihei. Breakfast here is tops: the relaxing sur-
roundings just go better with a cup of morning coffee and a plate of banana bread French
toast. The evening meal is still decent (consider the BYOB option). Looking across the
road from Kamaole II Beach, you would never know this place was here. Walk past Fred's
Mexican Café to reach the entrance, although once you find your table you'll be happy to
notice there is still an ocean view.
