and across the street at the Azeka Makai shopping complex, the Maui Quilt Shop (808/
874-8050) can provide anything you need for relaxing mornings of quilting in paradise.
If you turn up Pi'ikea Avenue between the Azeka Mauka Center and the Long's Shop-
ping Center, you'll quickly come to the Pi'ilani Village Shopping Center (291 Pi'ikea
Ave.), which has the most relevant shopping options for visitors to North Kihei. A big draw
is the Hilo Hattie's (808/875-4545, 9am-9pm daily) clothing store where there's a wide
range of men's and women's apparel, and if you forgot your swimsuit at home (or want
another one), Maui Waterwear (808/891-8319, 9am-9pm Mon.-Sat., 9am-7pm Sun.) spe-
cializes in women's bikinis and beach accessories.
Central Kihei
Central Kihei is the land of the roadside shopping stall, and it seems that with every brick
and mortar store that closes, a roadside “marketplace” opens up somewhere down the
street. Although most stores have gone this direction, an exception is the Local Motion
(1819 S. Kihei Rd., 808/879-7873, www.localmotionhawaii.com , 9am-8pm Mon.-Sat.,
9am-5pm Sun.) surf shop inside the Kukui Mall. This is one of longest-running surf shops
in Kihei and an undisputed local favorite, carrying a large collection of surf and body-
board accessories. Across the parking lot, The Bikini Market (1819 S. Kihei Rd., 808/
891-8700, www.thebikinimarket.com , 8am-6pm daily) not only caters to a female cli-
entele, but prides itself on promoting high-end swimwear and pieces designed by local
artists.
On the other side of the road from Kukui Mall is the Aloha Open Market (1794 S.
Kihei Rd., 9am-7pm daily), a place which has grown over the years from some random
tents and roadside crafts to a legitimate retail outlet. The most popular shop inside the mar-
ketplace is Maui Mana (808/875-7881), probably because it's a headshop in a laid-back,
warm-weather, island destination.
The largest concentration of shopping in Kihei is in the Kihei Kalama Village (1941
S. Kihei Rd., 10am-7pm daily), where serious shoppers could lose themselves for hours,
if not days. This shopping complex houses over 40 businesses, the most notable being
Da Beach House (808/891-1234, www.dabeachhousemaui.com ) for surf-themed apparel,
Mahina (808/879-3453, www.mahinamaui.com ) for women's apparel, Serendipity (808/
874-8471, www.serendipitymaui.com ) for fine women's clothing, and The Love Shack
Maui (808/875-0303, www.loveshackmaui.com ) for your intimate moments back at the
hotel. In addition to the brick and mortar stores, there are myriad kiosks and stands where
you can do anything from get henna tattoos to play with a dijeridoo. This shopping area is
