In-Depth Information
Farther north in the center of Kihei is the Maui Yoga and Kickboxing (115 East Lipoa
St., 808/463-8811, www.mauihotyoga.com , multiple classes daily) studio for anyone who
wants to combine a yoga session with some sparring or self-defense classes. The medium-
size studio is curiously covered in dolphin paintings. Drop-in rates are $17, and if you're a
fan of doing yoga in a hot room, then these guys have you covered.
If you aren't a full-fledged yogi and just want to enjoy a cheap, casual session over-
looking the water, Yoga Supernova (2480 S. Kihei Rd., 808/250-7599,
www.yogasupernova.com , 8am-9:15am Mon.-Wed., 5pm-6:15pm Thurs., 8am-9:15am
Fri.-Sat.) offers one class per day that meets on the grass in front of the Hale Pau Hana
resort. The cost is only $10, and although mats are provided free of charge, you can always
just use a beach towel if you choose to bring one with you. The class schedule has been
known to vary, so check out the website or call to find out about the current situation.
You can also check out Maui Massage and Yoga (2450 S. Kihei Rd., 808/214-0129,
www.johannawaters.com , 8am-9:15am Thurs. and Sun.) which meets two days/week in
front of the Kamaole Nalu Resort. The cost is only $10 for a 75-minute session, you need
to bring your own mat or towel, and you need to find street parking somewhere near the
resort. It can get a little busy, but it's tough to beat the price and oceanfront setting.
To hear the waves crash from inside an actual studio, head to Maui Yoga Path (2960 S.
Kihei Rd., 808/874-5545, www.mauiyogapath.maui.net , 8am-9:15am daily), located be-
neath the Five Palms restaurant in the Mana Kai Resort and facing out toward Keawakapu
Beach. In addition to the morning session, there are also varying classes which run on cer-
tain afternoons. Although the cost is more expensive at $20/session, you can walk right
outside the front door and cool off in the Keawakapu waters.
If yoga isn't your thing and you're looking to move some real weight around, Maui
Powerhouse Gym (1279 S. Kihei Rd., 808/214-6737, www.mauipowerhousegym.com ,
5:30am-10pm Mon.-Fri., 7am-7pm Sat., 8am-5pm Sun.) within the Azeka Shopping
Center offers short-term memberships and free 1-day trials.
In North Kihei on the inland side of the highway, The Gym Maui (300 Ohukai Rd.,
808/891-8108, www.thegymmaui.com , 5:30am-8pm Mon.-Fri., 8am-noon weekends) of-
fers $10/day drop-in rates for visitors, and is located right across the street from the Kihei
CrossFit (808/874-1155) center that offers $20 workout sessions at multiple points during
the day.
