quick swim. There is ample parking on the north end of the beach, and there is a lot off
South Kihei Road on the north side of the Days Inn.
For as much activity as the north end of the beach sees, however, the south end of the
beach can be an oasis of calm by comparison. To reach the south end of Keawakapu you
can either take a stroll down the length of the beach, or if you would rather drive, when
South Kihei Road begins to head uphill toward the resorts of Wailea, continue driving
straight until the road dead-ends in a small parking lot. There aren't many spaces here, but
there is a small shower for hosing off. As if two entrances weren't enough, there's also
a central entrance to Keawakapu that's known as Sidewalks with public parking on the
corner of Kilohana Drive and South Kihei Road.
Afternoons during the summer can be windy, although by sunset the winds have backed
off and it's one of the best beaches in Kihei for a sunset stroll. An interesting fact about
Keawakapu is there is a 52-acre artificial reef a half mile offshore comprised of 150 cars,
2,250 tire modules, 35 concrete slabs, 1,500 concrete ā€œZā€ modules, and one sunken fishing
boat. Even though the reef is much too far to reach from shore, it's strange to think when
you gaze out toward Kaho'olawe it's all still down there nevertheless.
