Bay. If standing on the beach looking out toward the water, the Gazebo is on the point to
your left.
Local Style
From the outside, you might wonder what's so special about the hole-in-the-wall M
Honokowai Okazuya and Deli (3600 Lower Honoapi'ilani Rd., 808/665-0512,
11am-2:30pm and 4:30pm-8:30pm Mon.-Sat., $9-15). You might not notice the restaurant,
since the front door is often closed behind a colorfully decorated exterior of bamboo
and surfing photos, although once inside you'll find huge portions, great local food, and
budget-friendly prices that leave you wondering why you would ever eat anywhere else.
Even though it's inside a strip mall next to the 5A Rent A Space, what this restaurant lacks
in atmosphere it makes up for in practicality and taste. Although there are a few seats in-
side for dining, most visitors use this as a takeaway window for enjoying a meal back at
the condo. The food here can rival any on the island, and the prices can be half as much as
when the same food is served with an oceanfront view. Try the lemon caper mahimahi if
you're looking for fresh fish at an affordable price.
For a budget meal in Kapalua, the deli inside the Honolua Store (502 Office Rd., 808/
665-9105, 6am-6:30pm, $6) has plate lunches you can enjoy on the plantation-style deck.
The loco moco with fried rice will leave you stuffed. While the meals are cheap, the ex-
pensive cold drinks are where they make their money back. Service can be slow.
Mexican
In Honokowai, Ohana Tacos (3600 Lower Honoapi'ilani Rd., 808/283-7768, 11am-9pm
Sun.-Thurs., 11am-8pm Fri.-Sat., $7-11) is a family-run restaurant with a badge of authen-
ticity: It's frequented by the local Spanish-speaking community. This is one of the few
places on the island where you can order sopes or choose lengua as a meat option. Cash
only, and only a few outdoor tables.
Italian and Mediterranean
Cornering the casual Italian market, Pizza Paradiso (3350 Lower Honoapi'ilani Rd., 808/
667-2929, 10am-9pm daily, $19-27) also features cuisine from the greater Mediterranean
region. Fresh produce is sourced on the island, the beef is from Maui Cattle Company, and
passion goes into the preparation. Try the Big Fat Greek pizza with gyro meat! Organic
and gluten-free options are available. Pasta options grace the dinner menu while gyros are
the budget-friendly lunch option.
