In-Depth Information
LAHAINA
Frenetic and fast-paced, Lahaina is the shopping capital of Maui. The section of Front
Street between the Old Lahaina Center and the 505 shopping center is where you'll find
the majority of shops.
MM Front Street
Front Street is a sight unto itself that centers around commerce and a voracious love of
shopping. Front Street has been listed as one of the “Great Streets in America” by the
American Planning Association. Walking the length of this vivacious thoroughfare is one
of the West Side's most popular activities. Along this flat, oceanfront stretch you'll find
everything from art galleries to surf shops all compressed together in a nonstop string of
merchandise. Most shops are open 9am-10pm.
The Wyland Gallery (711 Front St., 808/667-2285, www.wyland.com ) offers the
artist's trademark array of marine life scenes in a perfect oceanfront location. On the op-
posite side of the street, acclaimed photographer Peter Lik (712 Front St., 808/661-6623,
www.peterlik.com ) has a popular showroom of his oversize art with the ability to transport
you directly into the photograph. Other galleries of note are Sargent's Fine Art (802
Front St., 808/667-4030, www.sargentsfineart.com ) on the corner of Lahainaluna Road,
the Village Gallery (120 Dickenson St., 808/661-5199, www.villagegalleriesmaui.com ),
and Martin Lawrence (808/661-1788, www.martinlawrence.com ) . Those with a passion
for art should also remember that every Friday night is art night in Lahaina, when many
galleries put on their finest show, featuring artist appearances or live jazz, 7pm-10pm.
