In-Depth Information
the island's original course, having opened in 1962. Rates for the Royal course are $249
for non-resort guests, and those staying in Ka'anapali can play for $189. For those willing
to tee off after 1pm, the price drops down to $149.
The Ka'anapali Kai (2290 Ka'anapali Pkwy., 808/661-3691,
www.kaanapaligolfcourses.com ) course has most of its holes on the inland side of the
highway. The fairways here aren't as nicely maintained as the Royal, although since you're
playing at a slight elevation there are still the kind of ocean views you would expect from a
resort course in Hawai'i. Rates for the Kai course are $205 for non-resort guests and $149
for those staying in Ka'anapali. Rates drop to $119 after 1pm, club rental is $49, and shoes
are available for $10. Both Ka'anapali courses check in at the same clubhouse.
TENNIS
Kapalua, Napili, and Honokowai
For those who are serious about their tennis, the Kapalua Tennis Club (300 Kapalua Dr.,
808/662-7730, www.golfatkapalua.com/tennis , 8am-6pm daily) is the largest facility on
the northwest side of the island and has been ranked as one of the top 50 tennis resorts in
the United States. There are “stroke of the day” clinics every day 9am-10am for $25, as
well as drop-in doubles sessions on Monday and Wednesday 4pm-6pm for $12/person. If
you just want to rent some court time, court fees are $14/person for the day, and racquets
are only $6/day if you left your sticks at home.
There are a couple of public courts without any fees at Napili Park off Honoapi'ilani
Highway between Napilihau Street and the entrance to Kapalua resort. The courts here can
be windy in the afternoons and potentially wet in the mornings, but if you're just looking
for somewhere to knock a few balls around, then these are the closest.
Ka'anapali
Even though a number of resorts in Ka'anapali have courts available for guests, the facility
with the largest number of courts and programs is the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch (2780
Keka'a Dr., 808/667-5200, www.tennismaui.net , 8am-noon and 2pm-6pm Mon.-Fri., 8am-
noon and 2pm-5pm weekends), in the parking lot of the Royal Lahaina Resort. This is the
premier tennis facility in Ka'anapali. Morning clinics are $20/person, as are the Saturday
morning doubles clinics for intermediate and advanced players. Court fees are only $10/
person for those who just want to hit on their own, and racquets can be rented for an af-
fordable $2.50. Private instruction and hitting sessions are available for advanced players.
