Figure 6. The blood report table
images. Due to the lack of video codecs and other
video capabilities from the devices of this class,
the web page does not include any video, but it
permits the images to be viewed in full-screen
mode. Images, where available, are hyperlinked
behind the indication “yes”. Elsewhere, a single
indication “no” is shown.
The data is sorted in a table without visible
margins. This is an alternative arrangement
of the content due to the minimum HTML
support of the less advanced devices of the
class.
Future Research Directions
Dynamic Web Page for the Default Terminal
Class
Figure 10 illustrates the resulting Web page. Since
some of the devices in this class provide just ba-
sic HTML support and multimedia capabilities,
here, we decide to present a very simple page
to compromise with the less advanced devices.
In more specific, the Web page for this class of
devices is quite similar to the one for wireless
devices with multimedia capabilities, with the
following differences:
This chapter presented how the WURFL archi-
tecture can support a sever-driven adaptation of
HTTP-based medical applications to the terminal
capabilities of their clients. Obviously, this frame-
work can fairly work with any type of content, not
only medical. However, the wireless medical in-
novations introduced recently, in conjunction with
the wireless and mobile revolution we experience
and, hence, the plethora of different devices that
will be required to simultaneously access medical
services and content, constitute e-healthcare as
the ideal field for such applications. Definitely,
the paradigm presented here is just a very little
and basic example of the dynamic behind such
an adaptation framework. Many implementation
improvements and extensions could be suggested.
For example, we could pursue a more exhaustive
search into the WURFL file to extract even more
Since these devices either do not provide
any multimedia capabilities or the mediat-
ing network access technology might not
enable its proper reproduction, multimedia
content is not provided at all.
