In-Depth Information
For consistency, we provide here the code of the
corresponding XSLT for the dynamic production
of this web page. The XSLT transformations we
have produced for the remaining four capabilities
classes are quite similar to this one (Exhibit 5) but
tailored to the requirements for each class.
This web page has white background and text
in black font. The images do not exceed the
100x100 pixels in size, so they can fit the patient's
table. Images themselves are active hyperlinks to
the same image in full size. Videos are of 150x150
pixels with option for full screen play back. Vid-
eos can run locally or via streaming video web
sites as embedding objects in our page. Figure 5
illustrates the resulting web page.
For simplicity, the linked table of blood
analysis has the same simple format for all patients
and is presented the same to all terminal classes
independent of their advanced or not capabilities.
The only effect it includes is the highlighting of
blood values outside the normal ranges. Figure 6
illustrates the linked blood report table of some
patient. For consistency, the table is presented
here, but the same table is, also, referred to the
following sections.
Visualization of the hematorcit's field con-
tinues to be in a graphical form, but here
the background is a table with three ver-
tical fields: the “L” for the lower values,
the “N” for the normal values and the “H”
for the high ones. This is to avoid confus-
ing the medical staff due to limited ren-
dering capabilities of colored gradients in
the devices of this terminal class induced
by limitations on the color palette of their
displays.
Image are directly shown, but videos are
substituted by the hyperlink “yes” if a
video related to the patient is provided, or
“no” if it is not.
Dynamic Web Page for the Terminal Class
of “Wireless Devices with Full Multimedia
Capabilities”
Figure 8 illustrates the resulting Web page. Here,
we have chosen black background for saving
the battery of the device. Furthermore, due to
the small size of these devices, the page, instead
of thumbnails for images and videos, contains
hyperlinks to the multimedia content, which is,
then, projected full-sized in the narrow screen.
The hematocrit field contains now a single value,
because a graph might have unpredictable effects
upon displaying. In more specific, the Web page for
this class of devices is quite similar to the one for
PCs and laptops, with the following differences:
Dynamic Web Page for the “Smartphones or
PDAs” Terminal Class
Figure 7 illustrates the resulting Web page. Due
to their limited capabilities, comparing to those
of desktop PCs and laptops, the page for smart-
phones and PDAs is more abstemious as far as it
concerns the presentation of multimedia content.
Additionally, for limiting battery consumption,
colors are greyer. In more specific, the web page
for this class of devices is quite similar to the one
for PCs and laptops, with the following differences:
The background is black and the text white.
Such a contrast is convenient for the small
monitors of mobile phones, since, apart
from the economy on the battery's energy,
the monitor's pixels do not have to lit.
The maximum size of the patient's table,
is in accordance with the maximum capa-
bility of the device for presenting network
content (taken from WURFL), so we can
reach the best result on the presentation of
the information. It is very likely that the ta-
ble will have bigger size than the device's
The background is grey and the text white.
This enables smoother visualization of
data, as well as economy to the battery's
energy. The lighter the background, the
larger the amount of energy required for its
projection.
