The Slum Community in Ahmedabad

2. Current patient identification and record
systems in place.
The slum community in Ahmedabad is considered
the largest in India, and the third largest in Asia,
housing around 140,000 individuals including
around 8,000 children. The slum community
center is operated by the Manav Sadhna 2 located
in the Gandhi Ashram, and looks after around
8,000 children from the community.
Palanpur Villages in Banaskantha
District
The solution team studied two representative
rural villages surrounding the town of Palanpur,
namely Malana and Utanpura. The former has a
population of around 5000 and the latter around
450 (66 children, 35 families).

5.2. Objectives
Linking territory and regional health
networks to medical facilities.
The field test aimed to establish proof-of-concept
for the implementation of a real-time electronic
individual identification and tracking system in
low-resource settings in rural India. The field in-
vestigations focused on assessing available medi-
cal specialty and ambulatory care, and concluding
how technologies proposed by the team may be
utilized. Specifically, the solution team redressed
five objectives, as detailed below.
