CONFIGURATION
There are many language based platforms to de-
velop mobile phone software like the proposed
Telemedicine software. Different mobile phone
brands use different programming platforms.
Some of them are objective C platform for i-
phone, Java Script and html based platform named
WebOS for Palm phone, Java based platform
named Android for Android phone etc. J2ME is
the most common java based platform for devel-
oping mobile application and therefore, it is used
to develop the designed Telemedicine software.
Android is a mobile operating system using
a modified version of the Linux kernel. It was
initially developed by Android Inc. A firm later
purchased by Google, and lately by the Open
Handset Alliance. It allows developers to write
managed code in the Java language, controlling
The overall architecture of the Telemedicine
system is very simple and user friendly. Data of
vital signs are collected by the wireless medi-
cal devices or sensor and transmitted wirelessly
using Bluetooth (Class II) to a Mobile gateway
(Smart phone or PDA). The “Telemedicine”
software which is installed inside the mobile
phone processes the data and forwards them via
Cellular communication (GPRS or EDGE) to
the Telemedicine online database server (Figure
1). The online database server can communicate
with 3rd party applications using Web Services
interface (Figure 1) for easy integration with other
medical systems.
