In-Depth Information
Viewing a Texture
Textures can be applied to meshes, used for the skybox or terrain, or used for
graphical effects, such as particles.
1. Expand the Texture group from the Media Tree.
2. Select any of the objects within the groups in the Textures folder.
Recall that Figures 7.2 and 7.3 showed examples of two textures.
Note
A skyboxis a graphic texture that is applied (wrapped) around the world to create the sky. You can
create your own skybox or edit a current one for use in your project.
Note
Terrain textures are the graphic images that you use for the ground within your MMO. So you
might have a grass, sandy, or dirt-based terrain image, for example.
Note
A particle is a graphic effect that you can place within your MMO. Particle effects are used
extensively in modern-games to display effects such as smoke, explosions, blood splatter, and fire
(and many more).
Viewing Sounds
The sounds group contains all of the current sounds within the default project.
Click on the Sounds group in the Media Tree to expand it.
In the Sounds tree, you will see three items currently applied
footsteps, water,
and forest. Click WAV files, called Carefulstep2 and dampstep. These are two
different walking sound effects. Select one of these items and then click on the
Play button that has appeared at the bottom of the Preview window, as shown in
Figure 7.6. You will hear the sound effect play.
