5.1 INTRODUCTION
We have shown that brain membrane fluidity alterations play important role in the
development of the Alzheimer's-like disease [1], and these changes must be took into
account during diagnostic and therapy of the dementia. The main problem is the im-
possibility to use pieces of human brain. In this case the most favorable body tissue
is the blood, which contact with all other tissues. Therefore, it is important to study
erythrocyte membrane structure alterations during Alzheimer's-like disease develop-
ment.
Structural characteristics change in erythrocyte membranes of mice bearing
Alzheimer's-like disease caused by the olfactory bulbectomy was studied. Erythroly-
sis, malondialdehyde (MDA) content, and lipid bilayer microviscosity was used as
