Distinctive feature of erythrocyte is maintaining the relatively constant level of su-
peroxide because of it is continuously formation in the reaction of oxyhemoglobin
autoxidation:

Thus, simultaneous proceeding of reaction (4) and (7) may provide formation of initial
products for reaction (6) resulting in peroxynitrite formation. Taking into account the
earlier results evidencing the hemolytic action of synthetic peroxynitrite [11] we sup-
posed that hemolytic effect of SNICs may be caused by peroxynitrite formed inside
erythrocytes.
11.4 CONCLUSION
Obtained results are in accord with known opinion on peroxynitrite as the main source
of cytotoxicity concerned with the NO metabolism in living systems. The realiza-
tion of cytotoxic potential of peroxynitrite occurs likely through activation oxidative
process inside erythrocyte. Establishing of specific mechanism of that process is the
matter of our further investigations.
