White and pine decor make for pleasant rooms. They're reason-
ably sized, but a faded look is creeping in at this old timer, dating to 1959. Ask for a room
with a Namsan view and keep your eyes on that. The attached Italian restaurant and cafe
adds a dash of contemporary style.

Now in two locations on the slopes of Namsan, this long-run-
ning backpacker guesthouse is a good budget choice. The newer location, lower down the
mountain opposite a wedding hall, offers the better rooms and some breezy terraces that
allow you to mingle with fellow guests. A free basic breakfast is included in the rates.

If you're looking for somewhere central and with a bit more space to spread out
than at the backpacker lodges, then this place in a large house may be your answer.
There's a kitchen and big bathrooms and some antique style to the rooms. The company
also has several other short-stay apartments around the city for rent.

There are no dorms, but the cramped motel-style en-suite rooms are
brightly decorated and have TVs. There's scant communal areas beyond the lobby and
tiny kitchen. From the subway exit take the first alley on the left and then walk down the
second alley.
