Ideal for exploring city on foot with the
palaces, Insa-dong and Bukchon on your
doorstep. Plenty of characterful hanok guest-
houses and homestays.
Light on top-end hotels. Parts of
Insa-dong and Bukchon are very
heavily trafficked with tourists.
Gwanghwamun &
Jongno-gu
Central location and direct access to Mt Nam-
san and shopping in Myeong-dong and Nam-
daemun. Good selection of accommodation at
all levels.
Streets in heart of Myeong-dong are
perpetually busy - not a place for
those seeking peace and tranquillity.
Myeong-dong &
Jung-gu
Best for budget travellers who want to party
with the hipsters in Hongdae, Sinchon and
Edae. Yeouido is recommended only if you
have business on the island.
You will spend a fair amount of time
on the subway to get to the major
sights.
Western Seoul
Reasonably central location close to some
major sights. Perfect if you want to take full
advantage of Itaewon's plentiful dining and
nightlife options.
The most 'Western' area of Seoul.
You'll be catching taxis or taking the
subway to major sights north of
Namsan.
Itaewon & Yongsan-
gu
Shopping nirvana, particularly for those who
love markets. Night owls will be thrilled by
the 24-hour activity.
Hotels on Walker Hill are a long
drive from the city and not close to
the subway either.

Eastern Seoul
