HEYRI
Just wandering around the village is a pleasure. Interesting pieces of architecture and sculp-
ture abound, most created with materials that reflect and fit in with the natural environ-

Among the many small museums and galleries is the Han Hyang Lim Onggi Museum
( www.heyrimuseum.com ; Gate 7; admission ₩3000; 10am-7pm Tue-Fri, 10am-8pm Sat & Sun; ) , with a
fine collection of traditional Korean pottery including many giant kimchi pots. There's also
a colourful playground area (Gate 5; www.dalki.com ) that's devoted to the cartoon character
Dalki, created by the Ssamzie accessories brand.
PAJU BOOK CITY
( www.pajubookcity.org ) Contemporary architecture and original building concepts are also
abundant in Paju Book City, 10km south of Heyri. Check out the Asia Publication Cul-
ture & Information Centre ( www.jijihyang.org ) , partly clad in rusting steel that picks up the
colours of the environment and juxtaposed with a beautiful example of a hanok (traditional
house), dating from 1834 and transported here from the province of Jeollabuk-do.
NEIGHBOURHOOD
Paju is also known for its shopping, and is home to a couple of fashion malls, Premium
Outlets ( www.premiumoutlets.co.kr ) and Lotte Outlets ( http://paju.lotteoutlets.com ) .
Between Heyri and Paju, the Odusan Unification Observatory ( www.jmd.co.kr ; adult/
teenager/child 3000/ 1600/1000; 9am-5.30pm Apr-Sep, to 5pm Oct-Mar, to 4.30pm Nov-Feb)
provides another chance to gaze across the DMZ into North Korea.
