this colossal retail and wholesale market, which sprawls across a wide area on both sides of
the Cheong-gye-cheon and where the bargaining never stops. The wholesale sections oper-
ate mainly through the night, but even during the day it's a buzz to wander the network of
buildings and streets. You can buy practically anything, although it's mainly fashion that
drags in the punters.

Dongdaemun's commercial frenzy by heading to its leading fashion mall full to the brim
with domestic brands. Ten floors above and below ground are dedicated to clothing, ac-
cessories, beauty items and souvenirs. When you start flagging, there's plenty of cafes and
a good food court on the 7th floor.
SEOUL YANGNYEONGSI HERB MEDICINE MARKET
( www.seoulya.com ; Jegi-dong; 8am-6.30pm; Line 1 to Jegi-dong, Exit 2) Also known as Gyeong-
dong Market, Korea's biggest Asian medicine market runs back for several blocks from the
traditional gate on the main road and includes thousands of clinics, retailers, wholesalers
and medicine makers. If you're looking for a leaf, herb, bark, root, flower or mushroom to
ease your ailment, it's bound to be here.
TRADITIONAL MEDICINE
At Shinhan Bank on the corner go first right, and on the left is a 2nd-floor arcade with
stalls piled high with ginseng and honey products. Underneath and nearby are hundreds
more food-cum-medicine stalls, including some selling nuts and dried fruit.
SEOUL FOLK FLEA MARKET
(Sinseol-dong; 10am-6pm, closed 2nd & 4th Tue of month; Line 1 or 2 to Sinseol-dong, Exit 6 or 10) Spilling
out of a two-storey building into the surrounding area, here you'll find a fascinating collec-
tion of artworks, collectables and general bric-a-brac from wooden masks and ink drawings
to Beatles LPs and valve radios.
