EWHA WOMANS UNIVERSITY ARCHITECTURE, MUSEUM

by American Methodist missionary Mary Scranton, the name of this all-female education-
al institution was Ewha Hak Dang, meaning Pear Blossom Academy. Come here to view
Dominque Perrault's stunning main entrance, a building that dives six stories underground
and is split by a broad cascade of steps leading up to the Gothic-style 1935 Pfeiffer Hall.
Walking through here feels like going through the parting of the Red Sea. Look around in-
side and you'll find cafes, shops and an art-house cinema ( CLICK HERE ).

To the left of the entrance is the university museum (museum.ewha.ac.kr; admission free;
9.30am-5pm Mon-Sat) which contains gorgeous examples of traditional ceramics, art, furniture
and clothing.
