MYEONG-DONG CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL
red- and grey-brick Gothic-style cathedral, consecrated in 1898, to admire the vaulted
ceiling and stained-glass windows. The cathedral provided a sanctuary for student and
trade-union protestors during military rule, becoming a national symbol of democracy and
human rights. A new entrance plaza is under construction and set for completion in a
couple of years.

unusual glass pavilion was built to house castings of two monumental sculptures by
Auguste Rodin:
The Gates of Hell
and
The Burgers of Calais
. Changing contemporary art

1925 building with a domed roof has been beautifully restored inside and out and made
into a cultural arts space staging a variety of events under the auspices of the Korea Craft
& Design Foundation (KCDF). The number 284 refers to the station's historic site num-
ber.
