TICKET TO THE PALACES
If you plan to visit all four of Seoul's palaces - Gyeonbukgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung and Deok-
sugung - then you can save some money by buying a combined ticket (₩10,000) valid for up to a month. The
ticket is sold at each of the palaces and also covers entry to Huwon at Changdeokgung.

There are things to see above and underground at
this broad elongated square that provides a grand approach to Gwanghwamun. At the
square's southern end is a statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin (1545-98) who designed a new
type of metal-clad warship called
geobukseon
(turtle boats), and used them to help
achieve a series of stunning victories over the much larger Japanese navy that had at-
tacked Korea at the end of the 16th century. In the middle of the square stands another gi-
ant statue, this one of King Sejong (1397-1450). Steps lead down to an
underground ex-
hibition

with sections on both these illustrious Korean
heroes.
