There are several interesting aspects to this case history. Given his mix of
students, Mr. Grimes took a stealth approach to the gamer language employed
in the multiplayer classroom by downplaying lingo and concentrating on
motivation (see Figure CH7.1). His thoughts on intrinsic motivation, especially
the idea of giving students some control over their fate by allowing them to
choose crafting activities, helped clarify my thinking.
