The Rio+20 Outcome Document also refers to states' support to the Intergovernment-

ing and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment, including Socio-economic

The Outcome Document also stresses the need to consider the precautionary approach
in ocean fertilization activities.
In relation to areas beyond national jurisdiction, the Rio+20 Conference called for a
decision at the 69th session of the UN General Assembly in 2014 on the development of an
international instrument under UNCLOS for the conservation and sustainable use of mar-
ine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction .
