for transportation and power generation. This chapter provides an overview of
research dealing with the combustion and emissions of these fuels, both as stand-
alone fuel or by blending with petroleum fuels. Clearly, there is a vast body of
literature on the fundamental and applied research concerning the production and
utilization of these fuels. However, the scope of this chapter is limited to funda-
mental work concerning their ignition behavior, laminar

and the use of these fuels in dual-fuel diesel engines.
The chapter is organized in the following manner. The next section provides a
