RESPONSIBLE DIVING
Please bear in mind the following tips when diving and help preserve the ecology and beauty
of reefs:
» Never use anchors on the reef and take care not to run boats aground on coral.
» Avoid touching or standing on living marine organisms or dragging equipment across the
reef. Polyps can be damaged by even the gentlest contact.
» Be conscious of your fins. Even without contact, the surge from fin strokes near the reef
can damage delicate organisms. Don't kick up clouds of sand, which can smother organisms.
» Practice and maintain proper buoyancy control. Major damage can occur from reef colli-
sions.
» Do not collect or buy corals or shells or loot marine archaeological sites (mainly ship-
wrecks).
» Ensure that you take home all your garbage and any litter you find. Plastics in particular
are a serious threat to marine life.
» Do not feed fish and minimize your disturbance of marine animals.
PRE-TRIP PREPARATION
» Make sure you possess a current diving-certification card (C-card) from a recognized
scuba-diving instructional agency, and bring it with you. Dive operators will need to
see it.
» Be sure you are healthy and feel comfortable diving.
» Choose sites within your realm of experience; if your skills are rusty consider taking
a scuba review course.
» Bring a first-aid kit with decongestants, eardrops, antihistimines and seasickness tab-
lets.
» Remember to allow 24 hours after diving before you fly.
