ST CROIX HALF-IRONMAN TRIATHLON
Athletes strive for iron-man qualification in early May by swimming 1.2 miles, cycling 56
miles and running 13 miles over St Croix's varied topography. Heat, humidity and a hill
nicknamed 'the beast' await ( www.stcroixtriathlon.com ).
FOXY'S WOODENBOAT REGATTA
Foxy hosts several sailing events, but none are bigger than this regatta, held off Jost Van
Dyke in late May. It draws classic wooden yachts from all over the Caribbean for four days
of light racing and heavy partying ( www.foxysbar.com ) .
BVI MUSIC FESTIVAL
This fest brings big-name reggae, R&B and calypso acts such as Percy Sledge and Wyclef
Jean to wail on the beach at Cane Garden Bay, Tortola. It's held over a long weekend in
late May ( www.bvimusicfestival.com ).
WRECK WEEK
More than 300 shipwrecks speckle BVI waters, and during seven days in late May/early
June, local dive companies put together a deal where you can explore 10 of them in a suc-
cession of morning and night dives ( www.divebviwreckweek.com ).
June
It's the official start of hurricane season, though there's not much action yet. The
trade winds die down and humidity picks up. The plus side is that the sea calms for
smoother snorkeling and sailing.
HIGHLAND SPRING HIHO
Windsurfers and stand-up paddleboarders converge for the weeklong Hook-In-Hold-On
races, which zip around Tortola, Virgin Gorda and the Out Islands. A gaggle of cruisers
follow the racers for the portable party, held in late June ( www.go-hiho.com/hshiho ).
